Not that Crestwood was unique in his complete disregard for his wife‟s pleasure during lovemaking. There would not be as many married women of the ton ready to take a lover if their husbands were satisfying them in their marriage bed!
But Sebastian‟s father, the late Duke of Stourbridge, had been at great pains to impress upon all three of his sons that when a man took a woman to bed, be she liaison or wife, she was deserving of receiving all of his attention—to her pleasure, as well as his own. A man did not selfishly take his pleasure without giving it in return.
Juliet‟s innocence concerning intimacy, her lack of knowledge of lovemaking, were entirely due, Sebastian now realised, to the fact that her husband had been one of those selfish men who simply took his own pleasure from the woman spread beneath him—from Juliet!—whilst withholding that same pleasure from her.
Yet, at the same time as he wanted to kill Crestwood, Sebastian also knew that he wanted to thank him—for in effect Crestwood‟s lack of care and attention to Juliet‟s needs made Sebastian her first real lover. The thought of introducing her, initiating her, into all the pleasures to be had between a man and a woman, was more erotic than anything Sebastian had ever known.
„There is a way.‟ He nodded. „But not tonight, Juliet. Tonight, and all of tomorrow too, are only for you.‟
„We cannot just spend the day in my bedchamber, Sebastian!‟ She looked scandalised at the thought.
„Then we shall have to see how inventive we can be at finding other places and opportunities for your pleasure, shall we not?‟ Sebastian settled down on the pillows and gathered Juliet to his side, so that she rested her head upon his shoulder, before he turned to blow out the candle.
„No!‟ Juliet cried sharply as she realised his intent. „I prefer to always leave one candle alight in my bedchamber,‟ she explained shakily, when Sebastian looked a question at her.
„Why?‟
Why? Because Crestwood had always blown out the candle as soon as he entered her bedchamber with the intention of taking his pleasure! Because in the dark she had not seen, only felt, what he was doing to her! Because at night even now, in the dark of her bedchamber, she would still lie waiting, dreading Crestwood‟s climbing into her bed and painfully taking her…
„The moon is bright tonight, Juliet. Will that not suffice?‟ Sebastian asked.
„I wish the candle to remain alight,‟ she repeated stubbornly, avoiding that searching whisky-coloured gaze as he continued to look down at her.
„Juliet, would you care to talk about—?‟
